Day 1: Arrival at Salta Airport and transfer service to San Carlos a small town located 140 km from Salta in the Calchaqui Valleys. It seems time stood still in this place. Its small streets, well-preserved houses, craftsmen and the tranquility of its people, makes San Carlos the right place for your relax. Upon our arrival, we´ll enjoy a lunch tasting food of the region in a typical restaurant and then we´ll head to Casa de los Vientos Hostal (The House of Winds) where we´ll participate with the artisans in the experience of making a musical instrument step by step. At the end of our experience, we´ll start a musical journey throughout all the country with the folk rhythms performed by Perata Yañez family orchestra while tasting a selection of malbec and torrontes wines from the small family cellars together with goat cheese and assorted breads while sitting close to the small fire in the hostal backyard. Day 2: After breakfast, we´ll depart from the hostal at aorund 9.00 am to start our historical tour around San Carlos. We´ll visit the church which is part of the national historical heritage, the Avenue of the Doors, the craft workshop of the Santa Ana woven´s workers and then we will visit the paprika cooperative, where among exquisite aromas we will learn how the most distinctive spices of the region are made. We´ll return to our hotel to enjoy a lunch with empanadas and local wines. In the afternoon, we´ll have an experiential activity with master craftsmen who share their workshop activity: potters, making Andean flowers, weaving, metal work, felt or Andean weave, all with its local iconography. After this experience, we´ll head for a 24 km journey to Cafayate. This town is the heart of the Calchaquí Valleys. Surrounded by rivers and within a zone of high-quality vineyards and wineries, it is a must-see destination for world visitors. Arrival time around 7.00 pm. Accomodation at Asturias Hotel or similar.
Day 3: Breakfast at the hotel. Today we´ll visit an artisian vineyard with family tradition “Utama” where Sacha and his family will welcome us to walk around the “Cabernet Sauvignon” vineyard. They will explain us the procedures of ecological vine growing free of any agrotoxic. Then we will visit the artisan winery where they will tell us about the methods of artisanal and organic production, bottling and storage of the wine, to finish with an exquisite tasting of two kinds of wines while we enjoy two quinoa and vegetable empanadas. Last but not least, we´ll visit the art gallery and the ceramics workshop of the winery, as Utama surprises us by combining arts and wines. After enjoying this experience we will return to the hotel to have the afternoon free. We suggest to visit the Museum of Vine and Wine in the heart of Cafayate. Day 4: Departure 9.00 am. After breakfast at hotel we´ll visit a winery with larger production: the Hemsy winery. We´ll tour around the vineyard and taste a selection of their wines. After enjoying these experiences we will return to the hotel to have the afternoon free and to stroll through the center of Cafayate.
Day 5: After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we´ll depart to Salta Airport for our flight back home with all our memories highlighted by the golden rays of the sun reflected in those vineyards we visited.
